Over 70 House Democrats write to President Trump urging him to quickly nominate new U.S. Census Director to fill impending June 30 leadership void

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) today sent the following letter to President Trump requesting that no foreign-born person recruited into our Armed Forces be deported as the result of a reported policy change recommendation within the U.S Department of Defense (DOD). In 2009, DOD began the Military Accessions Vital to National Interest (MAVNI) program to recruit foreign-born individuals whose skills are considered vital to our national interest.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), founder and co-chair of the Congressional Kids Safety Caucus, reintroduced the Infant Formula Protection Act. The measure would prevent pharmacies, supermarkets, convenience stores, and other establishments from selling expired baby formula. Shockingly, this practice is not only legal but widespread, as there is no federal law to ban the sale of expired baby formula.
"It is mind boggling that in 2017 it is legal for stores to sell expired baby formula," said Meng.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) introduced the Community College Student Success Act to help boost the graduation rate of community college students. Though community colleges enroll almost 40 percent of the undergraduates in the country, only 20 percent of full-time community college students manage to graduate within three years.
Meng's legislation would provide funding to public community colleges across the country to administer the supports struggling students need to succeed.

Grace Meng (D-NY), a member of the House Appropriations Committee's Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs, released the following statement following her questioning of Rex Tillerson, Secretary of State, regarding the Department's failure to appoint a Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat anti-Semitism:
"I pressed Secretary Tillerson at this hearing on why the State Department has not yet appointed a Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat anti-Semitism.

"I denounce the anti-Muslim marches that are scheduled to take place across the country this weekend, and I proudly stand in solidarity with the American Muslim community in this climate of increased Islamophobia. These planned demonstrations are nothing more than attempts to fan the flames of hate, spread misinformation, and intensify anti-Muslim sentiment.

Meng Presents Congressional Record

QUEENS, NY – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) visited Engine Company 286/Ladder Company 135 in Glendale, Queens to present members of the firehouse with a Congressional Record that honors the life, service and bravery of FDNY Firefighter William Tolley.
Tolley, who was a member of Ladder Company 135, died in the line of duty in April while battling a blaze in Ridgewood.
Meng placed the tribute to Tolley in the Congressional Record last month and presented an official framed copy at the firehouse this week.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today issued the following statement on the MTA's possible demolishing of businesses located on the Lefferts Boulevard Bridge in Kew Gardens, Queens. The bridge, located over the Long Island Railroad tracks near the Kew Gardens LIRR station, is home to 12 local businesses.
"The bridge on Lefferts Boulevard has long been a fixture in the Kew Gardens community and the businesses there have been the livelihood for many individuals.
