Meng Issues Statement on House Republican Tax Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) today issued the following statement in response to the House Republican tax bill.

"The Republican tax plan is a giant giveaway to the wealthiest Americans on the backs of middle class families, and it will be catastrophic for our economy. The plan eliminates and reduces critical tax breaks for the middle class, such as the state and local income tax deduction that is particularly significant for New Yorkers, in order to pay for massive tax breaks for the wealthy. This plan will punish households in my district, thirty percent of which rely on the state and local income tax deduction which averages $11,000 per year, while phasing out the estate tax for billionaires. This plan is callous, fiscally irresponsible, and will be devastating for our country if implemented."
