U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today reaffirmed her opposition to the planned homeless shelter in Glendale, Queens.
In a letter prepared for today's city hearing on the plan, Meng reiterated that the Cooper Avenue site, presently a vacant factory, is an inappropriate location for such a facility.

"It is with great sadness that I learn about the death of Nelson Mandela.
Nelson Mandela is a hero for delivering freedom to millions of South Africans. But his greatest legacy will be what he did next. With great moral courage, he chose reconciliation over reprisal, forgiveness over spite and love over hate.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today called on the United States Postal Service (USPS) to restore the exterior of the Flushing Post Office, most of which has fallen into a state of disrepair.
In a letter to Frank Calabrese, Manager of the USPS's Triboro District, Meng called the neglect of the iconic building unacceptable, and urged that the front of the historic facility be expeditiously repaired.
"The paint is peeling. The steps are filthy and stained. Garbage litters the front. The doors are dull and tarnished," wrote Meng.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) today blasted the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for removing a plan from its rulemaking agenda that would have required corporations to disclose their political spending to shareholders. Meng is the sponsor of legislation, the Corporate Politics Transparency Act (H.R. 2214), that would accomplish the same goal.
"The SEC's decision is extremely disappointing," said Meng. "The agency had a prime opportunity to address a problem caused by the Citizens United case.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) announced today that she has resumed regular activities after being robbed last night near Capitol Hill.

Meng was walking towards her Washington apartment after having dinner at a D.C. restaurant when she was struck in the back of the head near Sixth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. As she fell to the ground, the perpetrator took her handbag, then fled on foot.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), a member of the Congressional Hellenic Caucus, today expressed her sadness over the death of former Cypriot President Glafcos Clerides.
"Glafcos Clerides was a highly respected statesman and a tireless peacemaker who dedicated so much of his life towards the reunification of Cyprus," said Meng, who also serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
