U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) this morning issued the following statement on the government shutdown:
“The latest attempts to defund the Affordable Care Act instead of keeping our government open show a complete disregard for millions of Americans and our economy. It is my hope that Congress will be able to work together to resolve its differences through the proper legislative process, without threatening the nation’s ability to function.
The health-care law has nothing to do with the budget. It has nothing to do funding federal agencies.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today blasted the Republican leadership in the House for passing legislation that radically slashes funding for food stamps, a move that stands to severely impact Queens.
The measure cuts $39 billion over 10 years to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) which provides vouchers to low-income individuals so that they can purchase needed food.
