Meng Expresses Condolences Over Death of Former Cypriot President Glafcos Clerides

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), a member of the Congressional Hellenic Caucus, today expressed her sadness over the death of former Cypriot President Glafcos Clerides.

"Glafcos Clerides was a highly respected statesman and a tireless peacemaker who dedicated so much of his life towards the reunification of Cyprus," said Meng, who also serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. "He will be remembered fondly by the people of his country and those in the Greek Cypriot community."

"I send my thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and the citizens of Cyprus during this difficult time," added Meng.

Clerides passed away in Nicosia on Friday at the age of 94.
