U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today issued the following statement on the permanent renewal of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act:

"Permanently extending the Zadroga Act is a major win for first responders. Passing this renewal was a tough fight that should have never taken this long. Forcing first responders to travel to Washington to lobby for the measure was outrageous. But I'm thrilled that that we've finally crossed the finish line.

U.S. Reps. Grace Meng (D-New York) and Lynn Jenkins (R-Kansas) today placed a friendly wager on the World Series, as their respective hometown teams, the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals, prepare to face each other in the upcoming games.

Under the bet, the losing lawmaker must wear the winning team's jersey, including taking a picture in it while congratulating the winner.

"I am sad to learn about the passing of Tom Ognibene. He was a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for Queens and loved the communities he represented. He fought hard for the things in which he believed and helped make our city and borough an even better place to live. I send my deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time."
