WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), a Vice Chair of the LGBT Equality Caucus, sent a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressing concern about the State Department's rejection of requests by U.S. Embassies to fly rainbow flags in honor of LGBT Pride Month.

Meng's letter urges the State Department to reverse its position and immediately allow Pride flags to be flown.

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) issued the following statement after passage of the American Dream and Promise Act, H.R. 6.

The bill establishes permanent residency and pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, and individuals who either held or were eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) as of January 1, 2017. These populations have been living in the United States for many years, but now face the threat of deportation under the Trump Administration.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Bipartisan legislation authored by U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) that would make restrooms in refugee camps safer for women and girls has been passed by the House of Representatives.
The measure, entitled the Refugee Sanitation Facility Safety Act (H.R. 615), would require recipients of U.S. refugee and migration aid to provide safe and secure access to sanitation facilities, with a special emphasis on women and girls, and vulnerable populations.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Reps. José E. Serrano (D-NY), Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science (CJS), and Grace Meng (D-NY), a member of the Subcommittee, announced today the inclusion of language in the Commerce, Justice, Science spending bill that would prohibit funding for the addition of a citizenship question on the 2020 Census. As Chairman, Serrano drafted the legislation and included the language. As a Member of the Subcommittee, Meng has fought for a fair and accurate 2020 Census, and for adding the language.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) helped to open a new display at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History that pays tribute to the Chinese immigrant laborers who helped build America's Transcontinental Railroad.
The display, "Forgotten Workers: Chinese Migrants and the Building of the Transcontinental Railroad," as well as its companion display, "The Transcontinental Railroad," mark the 150th anniversary of the railroad's completion which is today, May 10.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Climate Action Now Act (H.R. 9) which included an amendment authored by U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) that stresses the critical link between climate change and food security.
"Climate change is one of the greatest threats facing our planet and humanity. Failure to face this challenge immediately and head-on will have catastrophic consequences for us and generations to come," said Meng.

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), a Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration's latest attack on women's reproductive health rights.

Yesterday, the U.S. Mission to the UN threatened to veto a UN Security Council resolution on ending sexual violence in Conflict unless the reference of "sexual and reproductive health" rights was removed.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) secured several measures in the reauthorization of the landmark Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) which passed the House this afternoon.
VAWA is a 1994 law that seeks to protect women from violence and abuse including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
