WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) announced today that she has introduced a resolution calling on the House of Representatives to officially recognize Lunar New Year in 2017.
The measure (H. Res. 63) encourages the House to recognize the cultural and historical significance of Lunar New Year in the year 2017. It also expresses the deepest respect for Asian Americans and all individuals throughout the world who celebrate the holiday.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) announced today that she will not attend President-elect Trump's inauguration on Friday. The Congresswoman issued the following statement:

"With just days before his inauguration, I had hoped that President-elect Trump would put an end to his inflammatory rhetoric. But obviously that pivot has not occurred.

I have heard from many constituents and I thought long and hard about this decision. I respect the office of the President and our nation's peaceful transfer of power.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) announced today that the House Democratic Leadership has selected her to serve on the powerful House Appropriations Committee.
The committee is responsible for funding every federal agency, program, and project within the United States government.
"It is an honor to have been chosen for this critical committee and I thank my colleagues for selecting me," said Meng.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and its Subcommittee on the Middle East, today applauded the passage of a House resolution (H. Res.11) that condemns the recent United Nations vote on Israel.
"After the appalling vote at the U.N., it is critical for Congress to reaffirm its support for Israel, and that is exactly what the House did today," said Meng. "The passage of this measure says loud and clear that the House denounces the U.N.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and its Subcommittee on the Middle East, today issued the following statement on the United Nations Security Council resolution regrading Israel.
“This Egyptian-proposed resolution wrongly targets Israel and the U.S. must veto it if the measure is brought-up for a vote.
Such unfair and one-sided resolutions undermine the trust necessary for direct talks between the Israelis and Palestinians.

U.S. Reps. Grace Meng (D-NY) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) announced today that their measure to combat flood damage caused by ice jams has been signed into law by President Obama.
The measure was signed as part of the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act (S. 612) which funds water-related projects throughout the United States.
Ice jams occur when chunks of ice in a river are blocked by obstructions – a bridge, rocks, logs, etc. – and build up to form an ice dam.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today voted against the stopgap spending bill due to its failure to adequately reimburse New York City for the cost of protecting President-Elect Donald Trump. She also voted no since the bill only funds the government through April – as opposed to a full year – and because it expedites a waiver for General James Mattis so that he can serve as the Trump Administration’s Secretary of Defense.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) announced today that the House has passed her legislation to strengthen the Rewards for Justice program, a key government initiative used to fight terrorism and other international crimes.

The program allows the Secretary of State to pay cash rewards for information that leads to the apprehension anybody involved in international terrorism, narcotics trafficking, transnational crime, war crimes, crimes against humanity, or genocide.
