Thirteen members of the New York State delegation to Congress, including all seven representing Queens, have signed a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (D-Calif.) requesting that bodegas and small markets — and the low-income people who rely on them — receive targeted assistance in the next round of COVID-19 relief funding.

The top signature on the letter was that of Rep. Grace Meng (D-Flushing).

Congresswoman Grace Meng (D-Flushing), Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi (D-Forest Hills) and Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz (D-Forest Hills) led 94 New York elected officials from all levels of government in a letter urging President Donald Trump to support the expansion of critical safety net programs for New Yorkers, as the Empire State continues its fight against COVID-19.

These programs include food assistance for children and seniors, hazard pay for essential workers, paid sick leave, additional funding for unemployment benefits and other essential initiatives.

The Asian-American community has borne the brunt of a number of bias attacks since the COVID-19 outbreak and Congresswoman Grace Meng wants the federal government to keep tabs on it.

Meng has introduced legislation—called the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act– that would require the Department of Justice to review all coronavirus-related hate crimes that have been reported to federal, state and local authorities.

The DOJ would then be required to brief Congress monthly on its findings and the actions it has taken.

The U.S. Postal Service has renewed its lease for the Kew Gardens Post Office on Austin Street.

Congresswoman Grace Meng announced Tuesday that the lease for the 83-30 Austin St. location has been renewed for five years from Aug. 1, 2021 to July 31, 2026.

The existing lease is set to expire on July 31, 2021.

The Kew Gardens Post Office has been located at its Austin Street address for about 70 years.

Meng reached out to the Postal Service after some residents expressed concerns that the lease may not be renewed.

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A New York congresswoman wants New York City bodegas to be included in the next stimulus package.

Queens Congresswoman Grace Meng, who represents Forest Hills, Kew Gardens and Elmhurst, wants to support the roughly 13,000 small business owners across the city who are operating independent grocery stores, bodegas and ethnic markets.

She tells WCBS 880's Vickie Allen she's been hearing about their struggles often.

QUEENS, NY – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) announced today that she urged banks to assist small businesses with applying for coronavirus relief funds under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).
In a letter to the five largest banks participating in the program, Meng and other New York Members of Congress called for designated bank staff to be available at branches to help small business owners with submitting their applications in order to speed-up and streamline the process.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Reps. Grace Meng (D-Queens) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Queens/Bronx) led members of the New York congressional delegation in calling on House and Senate leadership to include rent and mortgage forgiveness in the next COVID-19 relief package. As representatives of the hardest hit region in the country, the lawmakers also called for the creation of a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) fund that would reimburse landlords for the cost of cancelling rent for the duration of the crisis, and for an additional six months after the pandemic ends.
