WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the Social Security Administration's (SSA) announcement of a meager 1.3 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security beneficiaries in 2021, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens), in collaboration with Reps. Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and John Larson (D-CT), have proposed emergency legislation to increase the 2021 COLA to 3 percent.
"COVID-19 has brought unprecedented suffering for millions of Americans, especially seniors who have struggled to afford everyday expenses," said Meng.

QUEENS, NY – Today, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) and Director Kate MacKenzie of the Mayor's Office for Food Policy visited Queens food pantry La Jornada to deliver emergency food assistance.
Through the City's GetFood Pandemic Food Reserve Emergency Distribution Program (P-FRED), Meng was able to secure 55 pallets of fresh produce to deliver to the food assistance organization. The items on the pallets included apples, potatoes, oranges, yams, kale, peppers, grapes, carrots, cucumbers, and celery.

"I've experienced how one community can be singled out and unjustly blamed for COVID-19. Bigotry and violence have been directed toward the Asian American community, and we need to prevent that hate from continuing to spread toward my constituents in the Jewish community in Queens.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens), First Vice Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, announced today that she introduced the Teaching Asian Pacific American History Act (H.R. 8519), a bill to promote the teaching and learning of Asian Pacific American history in schools across the United States.
The announcement of the bill's introduction comes on this day, 42 years ago, when President Jimmy Carter signed a Joint Resolution designating the annual celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Week.
