U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) announced today that Fang Wong of Flushing, Queens – an Army veteran and former National Commander of the American Legion – has been appointed to the Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans. The panel, which consists of veterans who represent respective minority groups, provides the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Congress with critical advice and recommendations about benefits, medical care, programs and services for America’s 4.7 million minority veterans.

Today, the United States Postal Service announced that it will issue a commemorative Diwali stamp on October 5, 2016. Diwali is an ancient Hindu, Sikh, and Jain festival that is an official holiday in many South Asian countries.

There are approximately 2.5 million Hindus in the United States, and over 60 percent of New York City's South Asian population lives in Queens, NY. Queens is also home to several of the oldest Hindu, Sikh, and Jain temples in the country.

This morning, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) submitted a letter to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform requesting a hearing on the price increase of EpiPens sold by Mylan N.V.

EpiPens are autoinjectors used to inject epinephrine into individuals suffering anaphylaxis, a serious allergic reaction that could result in death.

Today, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens), joined by Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley (D-Queens), State Senator Joseph Addabbo (D-Queens) and Assemblywoman Margaret Markey (D-Queens), sent a letter to New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer urging him to reject the proposed homeless shelter in Maspeth, Queens.

The correspondence calls on the Comptroller to not approve the proposed contract in which the Holiday Inn Express on 55th Road would be converted into a shelter for homeless adults.
