U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) announced today that the United States Postal Service intends to renew its lease for the U.S. Post Office in Fresh Meadows, Queens.

In a letter, the agency informed Meng that officials plan to renew the lease – which expires on April 30, 2018 – unless something unexpected occurs prior to the expiration date that might impact operations.

Earlier this month, Meng asked the Postal Service about the future of the facility after members of the community expressed concern that the lease may not be renewed.

The U.S. Senate unanimously voted to include a provision authored by Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) that removes offensive terms such as “Oriental” from federal law. The amendment was added to S. 2012, the Energy Policy and Modernization Act, which is currently being debated by the Senate. Legislation removing derogatory terms, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in December.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) introduced legislation that seeks to make feminine hygiene products such as tampons and pads more accessible and affordable to women.

The measure, entitled the Fund Essential Menstruation Products (FEM) Act, would add feminine hygiene products to the list of items that can be purchased with funds in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) and New York City Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz (D-Queens) on Tuesday night (January 19) hosted a meet and greet with the Queens Jewish community and New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.

The event, which took place at the Beth Gavriel Bukharian Jewish Community Center in Forest Hills, included local rabbis and civic and business leaders from the area. It consisted of Speaker Mark-Viverito meeting and speaking one-on-one with those in attendance as well as brief remarks from all three lawmakers.

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today spoke on the floor of the House in honor of Korean American Day. The following are the remarks she delivered.

“Mr. Speaker, I rise today in honor of Korean American Day, a day that commemorates the first Korean immigrants to arrive in the United States on January 13, 1903. On that day, the S.S. Gaelic brought 56 men, 21 women, and 25 children across the Pacific Ocean from Korea to America in search of a better future.
