Reps. Meng of New York & Jenkins of Kansas Announce Friendly Wager on Mets-Royals World Series

October 27, 2015

U.S. Reps. Grace Meng (D-New York) and Lynn Jenkins (R-Kansas) today placed a friendly wager on the World Series, as their respective hometown teams, the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals, prepare to face each other in the upcoming games.

Under the bet, the losing lawmaker must wear the winning team's jersey, including taking a picture in it while congratulating the winner.

"There are some things we can agree on in Congress but that does not include the World Series," quipped Meng. "The Mets easily beat the Cubs last week and now they're going to do the same to the Royals. Congresswomen Jenkins will look good in a Mets jersey, and I look forward to seeing her in one after the Amazin's become World Series champs. Let's Go Mets!"

"As a proud Kansan, I can't wait to see the Royals keep the line running and take the crown this year. The Mets have some decent pitching, but, as Rex Hudler always says, you can't sneak a piece of cheese by a hungry rat," laughed Congresswoman Jenkins. "In the spirit of bipartisanship I'm happy to work with Congresswoman Meng to ensure we can find a jersey that's the proper shade of blue. Let's go Royals!"

Game one of the World Series begins tonight at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
