Meng Urges Co-ops to Apply for Relief Money Ahead of 3/31 Deadline
QUEENS, NY – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) recently took part in a virtual workshop to help co-ops in Queens secure federal funding under the Paycheck Protection Program which provides forgivable loans to small businesses that have suffered economic losses due to the COVID-19 crisis.
The event was organized by the President's Co-op and Condo Council, and included officials from the Council, representatives from the Small Business Administration (SBA) and Queens Chamber of Commerce President Tom Grech.
"The Paycheck Protection Program is a vital initiative that will continue to help small businesses—including housing co-ops—struggling to stay afloat during COVID-19," said Meng. "I am pleased to have participated in this important workshop to help answer questions and talk about the importance of funding. Co-ops are a critical part of Queens and New York City, serving as homes for so many residents. I encourage impacted co-ops to apply for funding if they have not done so already—the program is open until March 31."
In December, Meng announced that she helped make co-ops eligible to participate in the Paycheck Protection Program. The Congresswoman had called on the Treasury Secretary and SBA Administrator to include co-ops after they were initially deemed ineligible.
