Meng Travels to Atlanta Following Mass Shooting

March 28, 2021
ATLANTA, GA – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today traveled to Georgia following the recent shooting at Atlanta-area spas where eight people were murdered including six women of Asian descent.
Meng visited Georgia today (Sunday, March 28) with colleagues from the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), of which she is the First Vice Chair.
She and other Congressmembers from the Caucus met with family members of those who were killed, and laid flowers at the three different shooting sites (Young's Asian Massage, Gold Spa, and Aromatherapy Spa). They also held a press conference and a roundtable with Asian American leaders from the area.
Meng has condemned the shootings and expressed condolences to those who have been impacted.
Video of Meng laying flowers at the Gold Spa can be viewed here.
Her remarks during a press availability can be viewed here.
Meng has worked tirelessly for more than a year to combat the rise in hate and violence against Asian Americans. These include, among other things, passing a resolution to denounce the increased xenophobia and attacks, introducing a COVID-19 hate crimes bill and President Biden's presidential memorandum that included several pieces of legislation she sponsored.
