Meng Statement on Indoor Dining Resuming on Lunar New Year
QUEENS, NY – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today issued the following statement after Governor Cuomo announced that indoor dining will resume this Friday on Lunar New Year.
"I want to thank Governor Cuomo for announcing today that indoor dining will reopen early on Lunar New Year - 3 days ahead of schedule - instead of on Valentine's Day. Lunar New Year is one of the most important holidays for Asian Americans in Queens and across the rest of New York. Last week, I joined Chinese restaurant owners where I called for an earlier reopening due to the significance of the holiday, and its impact on the local restaurant industry and the Asian American community. I hope this small step will bring much needed financial relief for many restaurants in the region which have been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. I look forward to safe celebrations as we ring in the year of the ox.”
