MENG STATEMENT ON GOVERNMENT SPENDING BILL
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06), New York’s senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on H.R. 10515.
“This week the House came to an agreement on a bipartisan bill to fund the government that supports working families, seniors, veterans, and communities in need of disaster relief. It would have been passed by both parties without triggering fears about a government shutdown. But that good-faith deal was upended by Elon Musk who rejected our hard-fought compromises. This is no way to govern and was disrespectful to Speaker Johnson and Leader Jeffries. The American people have been calling for Democrats and Republicans in Congress to find meaningful ways to work together and move our country forward.
The bill that came to the floor today was negotiated without a single Democrat in the room. It is NOT a clean CR. It leaves kids & families across New York behind by abandoning key healthcare, food security, and public safety provisions.
I voted NO on the H.R. 10515 because it completely abandons the bipartisanship my constituents in Queens and so many others across the country have long been clamoring for.”
