June 12, 2020

QUEENS, NY – Today, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations – which has oversight over the U.S. State Department – spoke with South Korea's Ambassador to the United States Soo-Hyuck Lee.

The two spoke by phone this morning about key issues of mutual interest including the ROK-US alliance and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

During the call, Meng also praised South Korea for the tremendous job it did in combatting COVID-19, and how she has publicly commended the country for its proactive efforts to fight the spread of the virus.

In addition, they talked about the Congresswoman's district in Queens, New York, and the time that the Ambassador previously spent residing there.

"I thank Ambassador Soo-Hyuck Lee for speaking with me today, and for discussing issues critical to our two great countries," said Meng. "South Korea is a vibrant democracy and a critical ally and friend of the United States, and the special bond we share only continues to grow stronger. I look forward to seeing the Ambassador in person when I return to Washington, D.C."
