Meng Selected for Leadership Council as Liaison Between House and White House
February 1, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) announced today that House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries has appointed her to represent the New York region on a new and important panel to help promote and implement legislation signed into law by President Biden.
The Regional Leadership Council will consist of 12 Members of Congress, all responsible for different regions of the country. It will be chaired by Rep. Steny Hoyer, the former Majority Leader of the House of Representatives.
As a member of the Regional Leadership Council, which Jeffries unveiled this week, Meng will help act as a liaison to the White House to ensure the successful implementation and increased public awareness of key legislation, focusing on the benefits and impact to the New York area.
These include critical measures that Meng helped pass in Congress such as the federal infrastructure bill; the Inflation Reduction Act which lowers healthcare and energy costs, combats the climate crisis, and reduces the deficit; the CHIPS and Science Act that improves America's important manufacturing and research of semiconductors; the Safer Communities Act and other crucial measures.
"Over the past two years, House Democrats approved and the President signed into law many crucial and historic pieces of legislation to strengthen our country and help the American people," said Meng. "It is vital for the New York region to reap the benefits of these measures and as a member of this new group, I will fight to make sure that we receive our fair share. I will also work to ensure that those in our area know about these bills, and how they have made a difference in their lives and communities. I'm excited to get down to work."
"The Regional Leadership Council will guide our partnership with the Biden administration as we implement historic legislation signed into law during the previous Congress," said Jeffries. "During the next two years, it is critical that the promise of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Safer Communities Act, CHIPS and Science Act, Inflation Reduction Act and other initiatives are brought to life in every corner throughout America. The Regional Leadership Council will focus like a laser beam on executing President Biden's vision of investing in America. I thank Leader Hoyer and our twelve distinguished colleagues for undertaking the responsibility of helping to make sure that successful implementation occurs, public awareness of our legislative accomplishments increases and meaningful change is realized in all 212 congressional districts represented by House Democrats."
