Meng: New Yorkers Receive Billions in Stimulus Payments Under American Rescue Plan

June 30, 2021

Congresswoman helped secure funding by working to pass measure in Congress; Bill is most recent COVID-19 relief package

QUEENS, NY – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) announced today that New Yorkers have received 9,738,943 Economic Impact Payments totaling more than $22.2 billion ($22,208,851,000) in 2021; funding that the Congresswoman helped secure as part of the American Rescue Plan.
The American Rescue Plan is the most recent COVID-19 relief package that Meng helped to pass through Congress. It provided working families with an Economic Impact Payment – also known as stimulus payments – of up to $1,400 per person. The measure was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Biden in March.
"The American Rescue Plan has delivered much needed funding to Queens and communities throughout New York as we work to get back on our feet and move past the coronavirus pandemic," said Meng. "This relief has been critical to our recovery and pumping money into the pockets of New Yorkers was a major component of the bill. I'm pleased to see that so many hard-working families across our state have benefited from these much-needed funds, and that the American Rescue Plan continues to help my congressional district put the COVID-19 in the rearview mirror."
The new statistics on Economic Impact Payments for New York, as well as other states, were released yesterday by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The data reflects payments through June 3, 2021.
