Congresswoman Meng Joins Queens-NYC Residents at D.C. Immigration Rally
October 9, 2013
U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) joined Queens and New York City residents in marching at Tuesday’s immigration rally on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
The local residents Meng joined are members of the Unite Here Local 100 union which represents more than 8000 food service and restaurant workers in the New York metropolitan area, including employees of cafeterias, executive dining rooms, bars, delis, sports and exhibition halls and performing arts centres.
Meng thanked them for their work and dedication, and promised to keep fighting for comprehensive immigration reform.
Last week, Meng joined Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and other top Democrats in the House to unveil comprehensive immigration reform legislation. The measure, introduced on October 2 by House Democrats, closely resembles the immigration reform bill passed by the Senate last June that increases border security, reduces the backlog of family reunification visas and creates a pathway to citizenship for the country’s estimated 11.7 million undocumented immigrants.
The rally included labor leaders, immigration advocates and Members of Congress.
