MENG ISSUES STATEMENT ON IRAN’S ATTACK ON ISRAEL

April 13, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, today issued the following statement on Iran’s attack on Israel.

“I condemn in the strongest terms Iran’s drone and missile attack on Israel, which comes in retaliation for Israel’s targeting of General Zahedi who Iran praised for his role in planning the October 7attacks. I pray for the Israeli people, whose resolve will not be broken by Iran, its proxies, or any of its enemies. Israel maintains the right to respond and defend itself, and I thank President Biden for making America’s commitment to Israel’s defense crystal clear.

Once again, I demand that Speaker Johnson stop delaying and bring the Senate-passed national security supplemental bill for a vote this week. Iran and Russia must know that America will not waiver in its support for Israel and Ukraine in the face of continued terrorism and destabilization.

In Queens, many of my constituents are just learning of this attack as Shabbat ends. Many have friends and loved ones in Israel, and this only worsens the loss and pain they have felt since October 7. My office stands ready to help those in my district who need assistance.

We are continuing to monitor the situation closely as more information becomes available.”
