MENG TO HELP RESIDENTS OF SIXTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT APPLY FOR OR RENEW A PASSPORT

June 3, 2024

Congresswoman set to hold another local passport event on Sunday, June 9 in Jackson Heights

QUEENS, NY – With many constituents preparing to travel abroad this summer, U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) will hold another local event to help residents of the Sixth Congressional District apply for or renew a passport.

Last month, Meng held a passport event at the United States Post Office in Flushing where 252 passport transactions were conducted, and the next one will be at the Jackson Heights Post Office on Sunday, June 9. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and no appointment is necessary. Applications for both first time passports and renewals will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, and those attending must reside in Meng’s congressional district. The Jackson Heights Post Office is located at 78-02 37th Avenue.

For more than a year, Meng has organized several of these passport events at post offices in her district. They have included two in Flushing and one in Forest Hills and Woodside, and the upcoming June 9 event will be the second one in Jackson Heights,

“I’m glad to continue providing this needed service to constituents so that they can take care of their passport needs in an easy and convenient manner,” said Meng. “The previous passport events I’ve hosted have been very successful. They’ve helped many in our communities apply for and renew their passports, and I’m excited to help even more do the same on June 9, especially as summer travel kicks in.”

Meng’s next event comes after she recently helpedto reduce the State Department’s backlog in processing passports, and improve transparency in the application process.

To receive a passport, an individual must be a U.S. citizen or non-citizen national, and they need to complete the application form which Postal Service clerks at Meng’s upcoming event can assist with on-site. The required supporting documents must also be submitted and details can be found here.

The following is what constituents should bring to the Congresswoman’s Jackson Heights passport event:

  1. Proof of address to show residency in Meng’s congressional district.
  2. If applying for a first-time passport, bring an original copy and photocopy of proof of identity AND U.S. citizenship documents.
  3. For a renewal, bring the most recent passport and name change documents if there are any.
  4. Children under age 16 must apply in person with two parents or guardians using form DS-11. Applicant must provide U.S. citizenship evidence. Parents must show parental relationship and present ID.
  5. Debit/credit card, or check/money order made payable to "Postmaster" for acceptance fees.
  6. Check/money order made payable to "U.S. Department of State" for processing fees.
  7. A color passport photo taken in the last six months, or a photo can be taken on-site with an additional fee.
