Meng Opposes Proposed Cuts to Local Senior Centers
U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) announced today her opposition to proposed state budget cuts to senior centers.
"Throughout my district - from Bayside to Forest Hills and Flushing to Ridgewood and Maspeth - senior centers play a critical role in the lives of seniors, and slashing funding for these facilities would have a devastating effect on the important services they provide," said Meng. "Some may even be forced to close. I strongly oppose these proposed cuts and call for this money to be restored. Senior centers provide meals, programs and help older adults remain active and social. We cannot turn our back on those who depend on these facilities."
Under the executive budget proposal, $17 million (in Title XX funds) for senior centers in New York City would be redirected to other purposes.
