Meng Announces Support for AirTrain to LaGuardia Airport

January 21, 2015
U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today issued the following statement in support of Governor Cuomo's plan to construct an elevated AirTrain to LaGuardia Airport.
"Building an elevated AirTrain to LaGuardia Airport would be a huge boon for Queens and I enthusiastically support this important proposal. During my first campaign for Congress in 2012, I highlighted the need to improve mass transit access to LaGuardia, and this initiative is a bold step towards accomplishing that critical goal.
An elevated AirTrain can make public transportation more attractive to those traveling to and from LaGuardia, and it would expand the potential of the Number 7 train and Long Island Rail Road. It also stands to reduce congestion, promote tourism and stimulate the borough's economy.
In October, I joined Governor Cuomo and Vice President Biden in Queens to discuss modernizing LaGuardia. I thank the Vice President for acknowledging the issue, and applaud the Governor for stepping up to the plate. Upgrading our airport infrastructure has long been talked about. But thanks to the Governor's vision and determination, an effort is finally underway to make it happen."
