Meng Receives Perfect Grade from Leading Latino Advocacy Organization

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today received a 100 percent rating from the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, a coalition of 39 leading Latino advocacy organizations from across the nation.
Meng was awarded the top score in the group's Congressional Scorecard for the 113th Congress which is used to rate Members of Congress on issues that impact the Latino community. The score was based on eight votes in the House on immigration and economic empowerment issues.
"It is an honor to be awarded the highest grade possible from one of our country's top Latino advocacy organizations" said Meng. "Working to improve the social, economic and political advancement of Latinos is critical to the prosperity of our nation, and I will continue my efforts to improve the quality of life for all in the Latino community. I thank the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda for its advocacy and outstanding work."
The scorecard rates Members of Congress on their votes and support for several pieces of legislation including:
Economic Empowerment
  • H.R. 3979, the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2014
  • H.R. 3102, the Nutrition Reform and Work Opportunity Act of 2013
  • H.R. 4935, the Child Tax Credit Improvement Act of 2014
Immigration
  • H.R. 3973, the Faithful Execution of the Law Act of 2014
  • H.R. 4138, the Executive Needs to Faithfully Observe and Respect Congressional enactments of the Law Act of 2014
  • H.R. 5230, the Supplemental Appropriations for Fiscal Year ending September 30, 2014
  • H.R. 5272, To Prohibit Certain Actions with Respect to Deferred Action for Aliens Not Lawfully Present in the United States (known as No New DREAMers Act)
  • Amendment (King) 136 to H.R. 2217, Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2014
Meng also voiced support for key political appointments of Latinos such as President Obama's selection of Thomas Perez for Secretary of Labor.
